A job spec for working at Stems & Vines
(With respectful mischief borrowed from Rudyard Kipling)
If you can keep your head when stems are snapping,
And blooms arrive at dawn in sodden boxes,
If you can smile while fridges need de-sapping,
And field the stream of “Do you sell phloxes?”
If you can charm a customer with stories,
While prepping wine and pouring with some flair,
If you can name three types of Peonies,
And find the bin bags even though they're never there.
If you can start your shift with strong black coffee,
Then segue to serve wine by half past five,
If you can smile through “Just a small bouquet, please,”
Then build a wild, abundant beast — you’ll thrive.
If you can stock the shelves with quiet passion,
And scrub buckets like it’s a sacred rite,
If you can wield your secateurs in fashion,
And still look fresh for a busy Friday Night.
If you can lift a box of Tuscan magic
With strength to rival any ancient god,
If you can breathe through moments that turn tragic —
Like smashing three new vases…on the dog. (poor Brisket!)
If you can think, and not make thoughts your master,
(Unless the thought is: “Shall we open fizz?”)
If you can laugh when things descend to disaster,
Like, the fridge dying when we’re in the shiz
If you can deal in days both soft and busy,
And never say "you know-it’s just a shop"
Then come aboard this madness, fun and fizzy,
We’re wine. We’re flowers. And everything on top.
We think the team at Stems & Vines is going to be pretty unique.
We’d like to find some SUPERSTARS in both Floristry and Wine Service.
Our opening operating hours will be Wednesdays - Sundays,
“Flowers from 10am; Wine from 2pm ‘til 10pm”
(potentially ‘til 11pm on Fridays & Saturdays, depending on our license)
Shifts will be across those 5 days, but we won’t expect you to work all of every weekend.
Alongside regular shop & bar activities, we will also need to staff a variety of events & workshops that happen on and off site, in the days and in the evenings, for both wine & flowers.
We are looking for the following roles, with estimated hours per week:
Head of Stems/Lead Florist/Philippa’s Right-Hand-Person
(FYI…you don’t have to be right-handed!)
Would suit an experienced retail florist, who is confident in all areas of floristry and has a particular charm in being able to welcome customers and work to any brief.
Would like you to also be a fan of wine & excited to learn more about it.
Mostly day-time shifts, approx. 38hr per week
Head of Vines/Lead Wine-o/Philippa’s Left-Hand-Person
(FYI…you don’t have to be left-handed!)
Would suit someone who is passionate about wine, has worked in a supervisor (key holder) position and wants to move into a more independent & impactful role.
Would like you to also be interested in flowers & plants and keen to discover all the wondefulness of floristry.
Mostly evening shifts, approx. 38hrs per week
P/T Florist: 20hrs per week
P/T Waiter: 20hrs per week
Casual Shifts & Trainee Positions: We’d like to give opportunities to both these kinds of roles, in either specialism.
Regular delivery driver
London Living Wage will be paid as a minimum but all roles will be paid fairly dependent upon skills & experience you’ll bring to Stems & Vines. Other benefits including holiday allowance, cycle to work schemes & staff rewards will also be offered.
